Courts Divorced 8,397 Marriages in 2024, of 10,448 Divorce Applications Filed

Bratislava, 27 July (TASR) - Courts in Slovakia divorced 8,397 marriages last year, which is 90.64 percent of the number of divorce applications filed, according to the Justice Ministry's statistical yearbook for 2024, published on its website. A total of 10,448 divorce applications were filed with district courts. This is 126 more requests than in 2023. In the five-year period under review, this is an increase of 0.51 percent compared to 2020. Of the divorced marriages last year, 4,986 (52.65 percent) had minor children. Families with one child accounted for the largest share of divorces - 51.3 percent of all divorced marriages with minor children. The most common cause of breakdown in divorced marriages, according to the Justice Ministry, was difference in personalities, opinions and interests, which occurred in 5,869 cases among men (69.89 percent), and in 5,881 cases among women (70.04 percent). "This cause has held steady as the most commonly cited cause for the past five years for both men and women," added the ministry. am
