Former MP, Historian and University Professor Ivan Laluha Dies Aged 92

Bratislava, 22 July (TASR) - Historian, university professor and former MP Ivan Laluha died on Monday (21 July) at the age of 92, his close family has informed TASR. Laluha was born on November 20, 1932 in Tekovske Luzany (Nitra region). After the Velvet Revolution in 1989, he became a member of the Public against Violence political party. Between 1990 and 1992, he was a member of the Federal Assembly (Parliament) of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic and chairman of its social affairs committee. Between 1992 and 1994, he was a member of the Slovak Parliament and the first chairman of its foreign affairs committee. He was one of the close colleagues of Alexander Dubcek and was also the long-term vice-chair of the Alexander Dubcek Society. He was the author and co-author of numerous publications, scientific almanacs, programmes, commemorative events and exhibitions dedicated to Dubcek and his legacy. Laluha received several awards and was also the holder of a state decoration - the Order of Ludovit Stur Second Class. He was a historian, sociologist, author of numerous scientific publications, projects and university textbooks.
