Bratislava, February 19 (TASR) - The presidium of the junior governing Slovak National Party (SNS) at its meeting on Wednesday expressed its support for the steps taken by its leader Andrej Danko, including negotiations with Voice-SD chairman Matus Sutaj Estok, reads a statement provided to TASR by SNS spokesperson Zuzana Skopcova on the same day.
The presidium also expressed support for the party remaining in the coalition with the Smer-SD and Voice-SD parties.
At the same time, SNS has accepted new members. MP Roman Michelko, who was in the SNS caucus but wasn't a party member was among them.
"SNS is expressing its support for the SNS chairman in negotiations with Voice-SD party chief Sutaj Estok. We are accepting the current situation in the interest of maintaining a pro-national government. SNS has always protected Slovakia, and therefore it will follow the same principle now. We refuse to gamble with the future of Slovakia like those who, in order to enforce their own personnel demands, have been blocking for several months the activities of the coalition, which was given a mandate to stop the danger of liberalism that ruled here in 2020-2023," stated SNS.
SNS has declared it is a solid and principled part of the coalition. "We won't allow the return of liberal reigns of terror," it noted. At the same time, SNS stressed a need for a much greater and more open dialogue with society. "The SNS presidium is calling on representatives of the executive power to help people much more consistently and to investigate wrongdoings committed against Slovak citizens in the past," added the party.
