Slanina to Stay at Helm of STVR Temporarily Until March 2025

Bratislava, December 13 (TASR) - Public broadcaster Slovak Television and Radio (STVR) will continue to be managed by deputy general director Igor Slanina, as House Vice-chair Peter Ziga (Voice-SD) who's tasked with heading Parliament in a temporary capacity, has extended the duration of Slanina's temporary role as general director deputy and executive, TASR learnt from Parliament's press department on Friday. The decision will be in effect as of Saturday (December 14) until March 31, 2025. Former head of Media RTVS Slanina was appointed to the post on July 1 and originally supposed to stay in this temporary role until September 30, with his mandate later extended until the end of the year. The STVR Board is supposed to elect the new STVR general director, but the Board still hasn't been fully staffed yet to hold the vote. The current state of affairs stems from changes introduced by the STVR Act, which transformed former public broadcaster RTVS to STVR as of July 1 and terminated the tenures of previous general director Lubos Machaj and members of his management. Under the new rules, the STVR Board will have the power not only to elect but also to oust the general director. mf/df
