OTS: International Anti-Money Laundering Conference in Bratislava

A two-day International Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Conference was held in Bratislava with the participation of 16 countries’ representatives.
Bratislava December 11 (TASR-OTS) - The Institute of Banking Education of the NBS, n.o. and the Banking Association for Central and Eastern Europe held an International Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Conference on 9-10 December 2013 in Bratislava, Slovakia. 51 institutions from 16 countries were represented at the event.
The Conference aimed at delivering the most up-to-date information on AML compliance and emerging best practices as well as practical solutions to help organisations in the financial services industry save time and money.
The Chairman of the Banking Association for Central and Eastern Europe and Deputy CEO of OTP Banka Slovensko, Dr Sandor Patyi emphasized in his opening speech: If financial institutions and law enforcement agencies want to beat the criminals, they have to make joint efforts internationally, often in different continents.
The Governor of the Slovak central bank Národná banka Slovenska, Mr Jozef Makuch in his Welcome Speech pointed out, that the Financial Market Supervision Unit of the National Bank of Slovakia uses a full array of supervisory guidance in exercising AML/CTF-related supervision over financial market participants. This includes methodological guidelines in specific financial market sectors. They are used during on-site inspections and as a part of off-site supervision to underline supervisory expectations of financial sectors.
The Keynote speaker of the Conference, Mr Robert Targ, Attorney at Diaz Reus & Targ LLP, US, truly believes that education and cooperation can make a difference. As he said in his Keynote Speech: “if we cooperate and vigorously promote AML education between the governmental sector and the business community, AML objectives will be met, domestic and international businesses will thrive, and criminal organizations attempting to launder their illegally obtained proceeds will be further deterred and disrupted.”
The co-organisers of the Conference, the Institute of Banking Education NBS and the Banking Association for Central and Eastern Europe announced that they were planning to hold the next jointly organized International Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Conference on 8-9 December 2014 in Bratislava.

The Banking Association for Central and Eastern Europe (BACEE) was founded in 1996 with the goal of promoting business relations of its member banks with financial institutions of Central and Eastern Europe. To support business expansion in the CEE region, which generally represents a higher risk than in the developed economies, BACEE is providing information and analytical services on country and bank risk in Central and Eastern Europe. As an independent legal entity it has been established by the NBS to meet the demand for education and training generated by financial markets, and, in particular, by the NBS. IBV NBS n. o. offers a diversity of approximately 120 courses focusing on the banking system, bank accounting, bank supervision and regulation, payment systems, financial markets, as well as management and language training. The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic has approved several continuing education programmes on financial literacy for primary and secondary schools conducted by the Institute. Its services provided at high professional standard are in compliance with the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system. Following the NBS authorization the IBV NBS, n. o. is an administrator of middle-level intermediaries and financial advisors professional qualifications examinations as well as the exclusive administrator of higher-level professional qualifications examinations according to the current Act on Financial Intermediation and Financial Counselling. The Institute has also been authorized to administer actuarial examinations.
