Sipos: Smer-SD Attacks Reflect Fear of Opposition

dnes 17:09
Bratislava, 9 June (TASR) - Attacks by Smer-SD are evidence of the party's "growing nervousness over the Purgatory case trial and fear of political competition, particularly from its strongest opponent, Igor Matovic", chair of the 'Slovakia' parliamentary caucus Michal Sipos declared on Tuesday, following an unsuccessful attempt to oust Tibor Gaspar (Smer-SD) from the post of parliamentary vice-chair over the criminal charges Gaspar faces. Sipos added that statements by Smer-SD representatives have also revealed whom the senior governing party considers to be its main political rival. "They are deeply afraid that Igor Matovic will once again be successful, defeat them in the next election and that the police will have their hands untied once again," stated Sipos. The party added that Smer-SD's reaction has confirmed that the governing party is focusing more on defending itself than on addressing people's problems. mf/df
