SHMU Issues Thunderstorm Alert for Western and Central Slovakia for Monday

Bratislava, 20 July (TASR) - The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) has issued a first-degree warning regarding thunderstorms for the entire western and central Slovakia for Monday (21 July) late afternoon and evening. The expected heat wave, which will peak on Monday afternoon, will be replaced by thunderstorms, SHMU posted on social network on Sunday. "A cold front will move through Slovakia on Monday. It will begin to affect the weather in the afternoon and evening hours and in addition to cloudiness, it will bring showers and thunderstorms, especially in the western half of the country," explained meteorologists. SHMU warned that thunderstorms might be intense, accompanied by downpours and high winds. "A storm system accompanied by strong winds will most likely hit western Slovakia, with gusts of wind reaching even more than 70 kilometres per hour there," added SHMU. ko
