Bratislava, August 25 (TASR) - The Nuclear and Decommissioning Company (JAVYS) and Electricite de France (EDF) signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday, offering further opportunities for cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and in the implementation of projects aimed at the development of the construction of nuclear facilities and small modular reactors (SMR), JAVYS spokesperson Miriam Ziakova informed TASR on Friday.
"The signing of the memorandum with EDF is the result of mutual negotiations for detailed technical and business discussions and a review of cooperation regarding further steps in the development of the construction of nuclear facilities and the implementation of SMR technology in Slovakia. Electricite de France is a renowned supplier of safe, innovative nuclear technology, including SMR technology," said JAVYS general director Pavol Stuller.
EDF first vice-president Vakisasai Ramany added that discussions on the programme for the construction of new nuclear facilities in Slovakia can contribute to the fulfilment of ambitions in the field of industrial development and environmental sustainability.
However, the signing of the memorandum does not establish any exclusivity with EDF, noted JAVYS. JAVYS expects from the memorandum a wider exchange of information in the field of new technologies, so that the company can assess their suitability for inclusion in the Slovak energy network.
