Bratislava, January 20 (TASR) - I welcome President Zuzana Caputova's support in the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) between Slovakia and the USA, Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) said in a statement on Thursday. According to him, this is the right signal for the public and for Slovakia's allies in NATO. The premier further stated that the agreement strengthens the defence capacity and sovereignty of both Slovakia and the EU. "By approving the agreement in Parliament and its subsequent signing by the president, Slovakia will join European countries, including Poland and Hungary, which already have such a framework agreement with the United States. This will also strengthen the defence capacity of the European Union's eastern border," said Heger. On behalf of the Slovak Government, he also declared that he honours Slovakia's commitments to the North Atlantic Alliance. "We are well aware, and especially in today's times when the peaceful coexistence of nations in Europe is threatened by the Russian Federation, that the one who doesn't behave as an ally will be left without allies," added the premier. Slovak President Zuzana Caputova supports the conclusion of the DCA with the USA. However, part of the authorisation to sign, which she'll give to a member of the Government within the process of its adoption, will be an interpretation statement of how Slovakia sees the agreement. She did not find any conflict with the Slovak Constitution with constitutional lawyers, therefore she won't address the Constitutional Court. am/mcs
