Kollar: We Accept if They Expel Us from Coalition

Bratislava, September 21 (TASR) - If 'We Are Family' party is expelled from the governing coalition by our coalition partners, we will respect it, party chair Boris Kollar stated on Tuesday. The red line drawn by 'We Are Family' party is the scrapping of paragraph 363 of the Penal Code [enabling the Prosecutor-General to annul unlawful decisions of prosecutors and police officers -ed.note] and the "splitting of the prosecutor's office into the General and Special". "We were told by the former premier [Igor Matovic] that if we won't support his cleansing, they can envision carrying on governing even without 'We Are Family' party. We accept this. And if this happens and they expel us, we'll go take a seat in the opposition, no problem. Even if they don't expel us, the odds are high that we might say goodbye ourselves if our rental flats and distraint amnesty are not passed," Kollar claimed at a press conference. Kollar praised the decision of the Prosecutor-General to withdraw charges pressed against journalists of Dennik N daily. "The role of the Prosecutor-General is to pull the brake and use the paragraph 363 or an injunction whenever something unlawful or bad is happening in pre-trial," he said, adding that this is yet another demonstration of the right call by the Prosecutor-General's Office. The House Chair intimated that the sentence of 14 years in jail handed down to ex-special prosecutor Dusan K. [name abbreviated due to legal reasons] over the bribe of €50,000 might be blown out of proportion. Kollar believes that people are wondering why someone receives such harsh punishment over €50,000 when "we have cooperating defendants here, who face potential 25-year punishments, yet get away with just a suspended sentence, despite having stolen millions of euros". Kollar doesn't want to defend Dusan K., but he perceives "miscues" also made by those on the other side. "People don't feel that elementary justice applies to all," he added. In his view, there's a problem with officials, who are either incapable or "capable of everything", which leads to chaos. mf/mcs
