Stats Office: Trade Balance Saw Deficit of €460.4 mn in April

Bratislava, July 9 (TASR) - Measures taken in order to halt the spread of coronavirus were significantly reflected in Slovakia's imports and exports in April, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday. The country exported goods worth €3.599 billion, down 45.3 percent y-o-y in April. Imports reached €4.059 billion, decreasing by 39.3 percent y-o-y. Slovakia thus posted a trade balance deficit of €460.4 million in April, the office revealed in its detailed report for April. Meanwhile, Slovakia reported a trade-balance deficit of €765 million in the January-April period. Goods worth a total of €22.768 billion were exported, recording a drop of 16.5 percent y-o-y. Imports amounted to €23.533 billion, up by 11.8 percent y-o-y. In the same period the highest surpluses were recorded in trade with Germany (€1.449 billion), the United Kingdom (€802.6 million), Austria (€637.4 million), Poland (€567.1 million), France (€558.9 million), Hungary (€328.5 million), Italy (€307 million), the Czech Republic (€300.5 million), the United States (€293.5 million), Spain (€233.9 million) and Romania (€222.4 million). Conversely, the biggest deficits were in trade with South Korea (€1.265 billion), China (€1.217 billion), Vietnam (€1.159 billion), Russia (€1.061 billion), Malaysia (€138.8 million), Taiwan (€109.7 million) and Japan (€99.2 million). Exports to the EU were down by 16.1 percent y-o-y, accounting for 79.6 percent of the country's total exports, while exports to OECD countries fell by 16.8 percent to make up 88.2 percent of exports. Imports from the EU were down by 12.3 percent y-o-y, accounting for 64.8 percent of the country's total imports, while imports from OECD countries declined by 15.5 percent to make up 63.2 percent of imports. ko/df
