Pellegrini: No-confidence Vote Makes Kollar One of Weakest Parliamentary Chairs

7. júla 2020 19:10
Bratislava, July 7 (TASR) - The fact that only 46 MPs supported Boris Kollar (We Are Family) in the vote on dismissing him from the post of parliamentary chair means that he is one of the weakest heads of Parliament, stated Parliamentary Vice-chair Peter Pellegrini on Tuesday. The group of opposition MPs around Pellegrini didn't take part in the vote to avoid increasing the quorum, given that coalition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) and For the People MPs had announced that they would not take part in the vote either. Pellegrini told a press conference that the support of 46 MPs is "woefully low" for a parliamentary chair, adding that this is the final sweeping of the Kollar's masters' thesis case under the rug. Kollar faced a no-confidence vote on Tuesday for allegedly plagiarising his masters' thesis. He filed the motion himself. Only five MPs out of 71 valid votes voted for his resignation. He therefore remains in office. am/mcs
