Bratislava, June 1 (TASR) - The return of older children to school as early as this academic year was one of the issues raised during a meeting of the expert consilium on Monday, said Prime Minister Igor Matovic (OLaNO) during his visit to the primary school on Ostredkova Street in Bratislava. Matovic's visit coincided with International Children's Day and the reopening of schools following the break caused by coronavirus. Matovic is pleased that parents, children and all others have "passed their exams" over the past couple of months. "Symbolically, on International Children's Day, we've made happy an absolute majority of Slovak children who were able to come back to school. Children were probably actually looking forward to school after such a long time," said the prime minister. Bratislava borough of Ruzinov mayor Martin Chren stated that over 3,000 children returned to schools in his borough. The prime minister took part in an improvised lesson in visual art at the school on Monday. Meanwhile, he praised teachers for managing the process of e-teaching, as well as the fact that most children had access to it. "We think of the children that didn't have this opportunity because their parents are poor or don't have internet access. [Some] children have lagged behind over this period, and we'll strive to enable them to catch up with their classmates via voluntary summer schools," stressed Matovic. School and school facilities were closed in March due to the coronavirus outbreak. Education has been resumed on Monday for pupils of the first to fifth grades of primary school and for children attending nursery school. ko/df
