FinMin to Submit to Parliament Proposal to Extend Special Bank Levy

16. októbra 2019 21:16
Bratislava, October 16 (TASR) - The Coalition Council asks Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenicky (Smer-SD) to present a legislative solution for the extension of the special bank levy at the next parliamentary session, TASR learnt on Wednesday. The Coalition Council is convinced that the profitability rates of banks and their insensitive behaviour in the area of bank fees entitles the governing coalition to take steps that will ensure the necessary revenue to the state budget in 2021, beyond the planned revenues. The so-called bank tax should be paid by financial houses for the last time next year. The special levy on selected financial institutions is part of the state's financial assets and constitutes resources to cover possible problems in the financial sector. In 2018-2020 the levy is set at 0.2 percent of the value of banks' liabilities lowered by the amount of their shareholders' equity. In the draft general government budget for the coming years, the Finance Ministry states that it expects lower revenue by €1.6 million compared to the budgeted value. am/mcs
