Strbske Pleso, October 5 (TASR) - The Slovak Battery Alliance has been set up in Slovakia, said Vice-President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic at a briefing during the GLOBSEC Tatra Summit 2018 held in Strbske Pleso (Presov region). Sefcovic added that Slovakia can become an important country not only in the field of automotive production but also in electromobility. "Together we've managed to agree that today we're launching the Slovak Battery Alliance, and this is the first step for Slovakia to remain not only a force in automobile production but a force in the production of electric cars," said Sefcovic, adding that Slovakia is responding in this way to the fourth industrial revolution and the need for environmental protection. The EC vice-president stressed that Slovakia is a leader in the number of the cars produced per capita. "We're fully aware that Slovakia must also play a leading role in this trend of clean mobility," said Sefcovic. Finance Minister Peter Kazimir (Smer-SD) also noted that the Slovak economy is very dependent on the automotive industry. "If we want the automotive industry not to become our weakness, we must be among the best in the world," he said. "We need to produce as many batteries that represent a value of €250 billion a year from 2025 onwards, and I think it must be our European, our Slovak interest to ensure that we don't import batteries from Asia but that we produce them here," stated Sefcovic. am/df/ko
