Hajko: Culture Ministry May Become Space for Public Acceptance of Disinformation

10. mája 2024 13:47
Bratislava, May 10 (TASR) - Culture Minister Martina Simkovicova (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) has contributed significantly towards establishing a so-called disinformation scene in the public space, MP Jozef Hajko (Christian Democrats/KDH) stressed in the debate during a House extraordinary session on a motion to dismiss Simkovicova, adding that the ministry, which is supposed to provide protection against disinformation, may gradually become a space that allows it to be publicly accepted. KDH will vote in favour of Simkovicova's ouster. Hajko fears that the Culture Ministry may also adapt public and public-service institutions to facilitate the acceptance of disinformation in the public space. According to him, the minister has a populist-nationalist approach and wants to subordinate culture to the power and political interests of one party, adding that the new law on public-service television and radio is 95 percent similar to the current one, with the only real reason being to put "their people" in charge of TV and radio. The bill is set to be debated next week. am/df
