Bratislava, May 9 (TASR) - Slovakia posted a foreign trade surplus of €577.4 million in March 2024, a sum that amounts to a year-on-year decrease of €119.4 million, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday. Slovakia exported goods worth €8.7 billion in March 2024, which equals a y-o-y slump of 16.4 percent. This development can be attributed mainly to a decrease in automobile exports, but also the high export figures seen in March 2023. Imports dropped by 16.3 percent to €8.2 billion, meaning that significant drops in imports continued for the fifth month in a row, mostly due to decreases in the value of imported automobile parts. A total of 79.2 percent of Slovak exports went to other EU-member states in March, while imports from the EU made up 67.1 percent of the total. Exports to the EU went down by 12.9 percent y-o-y in March, while imports from the EU fell by 16.7 percent. Exports to non-EU states dropped by 27.5 percent y-o-y, while imports from these countries decreased by 15.5 percent. mf/df
