Police: Reorganisation Will Streamline Structuring of Police Corps

Bratislava 6. mája (TASR) - The Police Corps Presidium rejected criticism by opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party, according to which it's about to render the environmental police dysfunctional, and claimed that the aim of the reorganisation is to streamline the police structure, TASR was told by Police Corps Presidium spokesperson Michal Slivka on Monday. "The long-planned reorganisation of the Police Corps was preceded by a comprehensive analysis and cooperation with the Interior Ministry's department of European programmes, the National Implementation and Coordination Authority of the Government Office and the European Commission, seeing as these processes are tied to the Recover Plan. We're approaching the reorganisation quite sensitively," claimed Slivka, adding that the drawing of EU money under the Recovery Plan won't be put into jeopardy. The aim of the reorganisation is to use human resources and equipment of the Police Corps more efficiently and reinforce particularly district and regional directorates that have been overwhelmed for a long time, said Slivka. "Common people won't be affected by the reorganisation at all, on the contrary, [...] we expect to bolster their safety and security, which is a priority for the Police Corps," added the spokesperson. Earlier in the day, PS criticised the decision. "There is a threat that if someone illegally dumps toxic waste on your land, cuts down a protected forest or destroys a water source, there will be no one to investigate. And such criminals will continue to merrily destroy the environment, which belongs to all of us," warned MEP Martin Hojsik (PS). mf/mcs
