Coalition: Talks on Judicial Council Member Candidates Still to Continue

Bratislava, May 2 (TASR) - The discussion on coalition candidates for the Judicial Council is set to continue, even though SNS insists on its nomination of Stefan Harabin, according to statements made by coalition lawmakers at a press conference on Thursday. "Our proposed candidate is obvious and we stand behind this motion," claimed Peter Kotlar (SNS). "We're seeking names and have registered the proposal by SNS," added Samuel Migal (Voice-SD), who added that nothing is agreed yet. If the opposition shows interest to participate in the discussion, the coalition won't hinder it. MP Tibor Gaspar (Smer-SD) finds any discussion on specific candidates premature at this point and stated on behalf of Smer-SD that a consensus will be sought with other coalition partners based on what names are going to be available. "Then we comment on names," he said. As for the postponing of the election of Constitutional Court judge candidates, Gaspar explained that no agreement on any name has been reached yet. Gaspar can envision negotiations with the opposition on the issue too, seeing as 90 votes are required to elect candidates. mf/mcs
