Bratislava, April 29 (TASR) - The trial in the corruption case in which ex-director of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) Vladimir P. [name abbreviated due to legal reasons] is facing charges is scheduled to begin on May 30 at the Specialised Criminal Court (STS) in Banska Bystrica, TASR was told by court spokeswoman Katarina Kudjakova on Monday.
A prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor's Office (USP) on October 27, 2023 filed an indictment against Vladimir P. over the crimes of receiving a bribe, misusing the powers of a public official and endangering classified information.
The original charges pressed in the case were dropped by the Prosecutor General's Office and a court later rejected the indictment. The ex-SIS head was charged with receiving a bribe from businessman and lawyer Zoroslav Kollar in exchange for terminating Kollar's surveillance by the SIS. The court approved a plea bargain for the bankruptcy lawyer.
