Parliament Ends Debate on Culture Support Fund

Bratislava, April 23 (TASR) - Parliament ended a debate on the Culture Support Fund bill on Tuesday. According to bill submitter Roman Michelko (SNS), the changes to be ushered in are supposed to help culture. Such a claim doesn't sit well with the opposition, which finds the changes unsubstantiated and takes objection to the fact that decisions on which culture projects receive fund subsidies will be taken away from expert commissions and transferred to a council controlled by Culture Ministry nominees instead. Michelko rejected the criticism and averred that the council will be staffed by experts, too. Once decision-making powers are transferred, subsidies will be granted to quality projects that lacked support before. mf
