Statistics Office: Both Nominal and Real Salaries Saw Growth in May

Bratislava, July 12 (TASR) - Both nominal and real salaries grew year-on-year in various sectors in May, the Statistics Office reported on Friday. The average nominal monthly salary grew in the following sectors: in pubs and restaurants - by 14.5 percent y-o-y to €528; in transport and warehousing - 13.8 percent to €1,083; in industry - 10.4 percent to €1,264; in wholesale - 10.1 percent to €1,049; in selected market services - 10.1 percent to €1,022; in accommodation - 9.4 percent to €789; in retail - 8.1 percent to €790; in the IT sector - €6.2 percent to €1,938; in construction - 4.5 percent to €744; and in the sale and repair of motor vehicles - 1.6 percent to €1,052. Average real salaries in May grew y-o-y in the following sectors: in pubs and restaurants (11.5 percent), in transport and warehousing (10.8 percent), in industry (7.5 percent), in both wholesale and selected market services (7.2 percent), in accommodation (6.5 percent), in retail (5.3 percent), in the IT sector (3.4 percent) and in construction (1.8 percent). They dropped only in the sale and repair of motor vehicles - by 1.1 percent. In the first five months of 2019 nominal monthly salaries increased when compared to the respective period of 2018 in the following sectors: in pubs and restaurants - by 10 percent; in transport and warehousing - 9.7 percent; in wholesale - 8.9 percent; in selected market services - 8.5 percent; in accommodation - 8.2 percent; in industry - 7.3 percent; in retail - 6.2 percent; in construction - 5.9 percent; in the sale and repair of motor vehicles - 5.4 percent; and in the IT sector - 4.9 percent. Real monthly salaries grew y-o-y in the same period as follows: in pubs and restaurants - by 7.4 percent; in transport and warehousing - 7.1 percent; in wholesale - 6.3 percent; in selected market services - 6 percent; in accommodation - 5.7 percent; in industry - 4.8 percent; in retail - 3.7 percent; in construction - 3.4 percent; in the sale and repair of motor vehicles -2.9 percent; and in the IT sector - 2.4 percent. zel/df/bub
