Salaries of Starting Teachers and Lecturers to See Hikes

Bratislava, June 26 (TASR) - Starting teachers and lecturers will see their salaries rise as of September, as an amendment to the law on the remuneration of certain employees carrying out work for the public interest proposed by the Slovak National Party (SNS) was approved by Parliament on Wednesday. "As of September 1, 2019 base salary will increase by 9.5 percent. Following the proposed changes, growth in salaries dependent on seniority will also be changed. Those who have worked between one and eight years will have their salary factors increased by 0.25 percent, and those who have served from nine up to forty years will see an increase of 0.5 percent," stated SNS MP Eva Smolikova. The party also proposed increasing the salary factors of starting university lecturers and research and development staff. The least experienced lecturers and research staff will have their salary factors increased by 8.7 percent as of September, while those who have worked in these fields for up to 15 years will see an increase of 2 percent on average. The most experienced workers, who have served up to 32 years, will have their salary factors increased by 3 percent. Granted scholarships for doctoral candidates should also grow by 8.7 percent. zel/df
