Stats Office: Employment in Industry Up 0.2 percent Y-o-Y in April

Bratislava, June 12 (TASR) - Employment rose year-on-year in most sectors in April 2019, most rapidly in accommodation - by 10.6 percent, the Slovak Statistics Office reported on Wednesday. Annual increases were also recorded in the following sectors in April: in construction - by 10.5 percent, in selected market services - 7.6 percent; in restaurants and pubs - 6.5 percent; in information and communications activities - 5.7 percent; in transport and warehousing - 5.3 percent; in the sale and repair of motor vehicles - 0.8 percent; and in manufacturing - 0.2 percent. Conversely, employment in the wholesale sector went down by 1.9 percent, while in the retail sector it fell by 1.7 percent. Average employment rates for the first four months of 2019 increased y-o-y in the following categories: in accommodation - by 9.4 percent; in construction - 8.8 percent; in selected market services - 7.4 percent; in restaurants and pubs - 6.4 percent; in information and communications activities - 5.3 percent; in transport and warehousing - 4.5 percent; in the sale and repair of motor vehicles - 3.2 percent; and in industry - 0.6 percent. Meanwhile, the average employment rate in retail between January-April fell by 1.8 percent, while in wholesale it dropped by 1.6 percent. ko/df
