Danko Takes Exception to Club 500 Statements on Sports Vouchers

Bratislava, June 12 (TASR) - Parliamentary Chair and Slovak National Party (SNS) leader Andrej Danko takes exception to statements made by Club 500, according to which SNS is shifting the burden of financing sports from the state to business, TASR learnt on Wednesday. Danko insists that the Club 500 representatives failed to read the bill on the Sports Support Fund properly. The legislation, submitted by coalition MPs Dusan Tittel, Tibor Jancula (both SNS), Iren Sarkozy (Most-Hid) and Martin Glvac (Smer-SD), which also includes sports vouchers, earmarks up to €20 million in the state budget annually for the financing of sports. "What we're talking about here is sports contributions. That's a second option of financing sports and it will be optional, based on employees making a deal with employers on a voluntary basis," Danko told TASR. The state will subsequently render such contributions free from taxes and levies. According to Danko, the contributions will be strictly voluntary. "We won't propose to make it mandatory and I'm confident that it will prove its worth," claimed the SNS leader, who believes that Club 500 failed to peruse the legislation. "I'm saddened to learn that Club 500 made such a statement." mf/mcs
