SNS: Patriots Believed LSNS, Their Votes Will Be Wasted

Bratislava, May 26 (TASR) - The co-ruling Slovak National Party (SNS), which appears to have been left outside the European Parliament after the elections on Saturday, on Sunday bemoaned a possible transfer of patriotic voters to the far-right People's Party Our Slovakia (LSNS). "We're sorry to see that patriots and people who feel for the nation have believed LSNS and that their votes will now be effectively wasted," wrote SNS in a press release. LSNS will probably gain two seats in the European Parliament. SNS believes that LSNS will do a great deal of harm to Slovak patriotic politics both at home and abroad. "Politics and the world aren't about polarisation and extremism. Unfortunately, we're witnessing this taking place both on the right and on the left, which is bad news for Slovakia's future," added SNS. According to estimates, the liberal Progressive Slovakia-Together coalition appears to have garnered 20 percent of the votes, ahead of Smer-SD on 15.7 percent, LSNS on 12 percent, KDH on 9.7 percent, SaS on 9.6 percent and OLaNO on 5.2 percent. SNS and fellow governing party Most-Hid, along with eurosceptic Opposition party We Are Family, appear to have finished below the 5-percent national threshold needed to make it into the European Parliament. bub/df
