Bus Crash in Zilina Leaves 25 Injured

Zilina, May 20 (TASR) - A public transport bus in Zilina crashed on Monday, leaving 25 passengers injured when 61-year-old driver veered off the road due to an as-of-yet unknown reason, TASR learnt from Zilina Regional Police Directorate spokesperson Jana Balogova on the same day. The driver submitted to a breathalyser test, but no use of alcohol was detected on his breath. "The circumstances of the traffic accident is being investigated by Zilina police," stated Balogova. "A total of 22 individuals suffered light injuries, mostly abrasions and contusions. Two people suffered serious head and back injuries, respectively, and one person is heavily injured. After receiving treatment, the patients were rushed to hospitals in Zilina, Cadca and Povazska Bystrica by paramedics," said Emergency Health Service operational centre spokesperson Alena Krcova. She added that a 72-year-old man had to be airlifted to a hospital. According to Katarina Krizanova of the Firefighter and Emergency Corps Presidium, there were 40 passengers on the bus. mf
