Bratislava, April 25 (TASR) - A park-and-ride facility for passengers travelling by train will be built at the railway station in Pezinok (Bratislava region), with Transport Minister Arpad Ersek (Most-Hid) handing over the construction site along with general director of state-owned rail infrastructure operator ZSR Juraj Tkac on Thursday. "A park-and-ride facility in Pezinok is very much needed, and I know that people have wanted one for a long time. The construction of such carparks is in line with our strategy of promoting green transport and getting people out of cars and onto public transport, in this case trains," said Ersek. The carpark will be located on a reinforced fenced-off area, which will be illuminated by external lighting and monitored by CCTV. The total capacity will be 291 parking spaces and 30 bicycle stands. According to the work contract signed with the contractor by ZSR, the construction of the carpark will cost €1.95 million, and the facility should be put into operation in September of this year. The contractor for the construction work is Skanska SK. The European Union (EU) will contribute towards the project via the Integrated Infrastructure Operational Programme. The Transport Ministry noted that more EU-funded carparks are planned for Ivanka pri Dunaji, Nove Kosariska and Zohor (all Bratislava region). am/df
