Newly Reappointed Lucansky Wants to Increase Trust in Police

Bratislava, April 15 (TASR) - Newly reappointed Police Corps President Milan Lucansky, who has been installed in the post by Interior Minister Denisa Sakova (Smer-SD), said that his priority will be to stabilise the police and to increase the level of public trust in them. "I believe that I'll keep up the good work that has been started," he said. When asked about personnel changes within investigation teams, Lucansky stated that he doesn't see any reason for this at the moment. "They have my full trust," he said, adding that he currently has no objections to the methods and quality of investigations. Among the changes that he would like to adopt is one concerning the career advancement system. He noted that motivation is important, and there is a need to attract experts into the police. The increase in cyber crime and technological advancement demand knowledgeable young people. In regards to the introduction of electronic service cards, Sakova stated that these will be discussed with Vice-premier for Investment and Informatisation Richard Rasi (Smer-SD). Lucansky noted that the cards could improve police transparency. The planned introduction has come partly in response to a scandal concerning illegal screenings of journalists. Sakova signalled that she'd appoint Lucansky on news-only television channel TA3 on Sunday. She said that her strongest argument for this is the fact that seven MPs in the parliamentary security and defence committee, obviously including one opposition MP, voted for Lucansky, while no one voted against him.
