Brezova pod Bradlom, September 22 (TASR) - Professional soldiers and Defence Minister Peter Gajdos (Slovak National Party/SNS) in Brezova pod Bradlom (Trencin region) on Saturday celebrated the Day of Slovak Armed Forces and also commemorated the 25th anniversary of an independent Slovakia and its military. "We want to build a young and modern military. Young - based on educated and well-trained young people, and modern due to the fact that there's the largest modernisation of the military ever taking place under this Government," said Gajdos, adding that when it comes to commitments to the EU and NATO, Slovakia is putting accent on the building of a heavy mechanised brigade. September 22 is held in Slovakia as the Day of Slovak Armed forces in commemoration of the first victorious battle of Slovak volunteers against the Hungarian national guards in Brezova pod Bradlom within the 1848 Slovak Uprising, when Slovakia was part of the Kingdom of Hungary. bub
