Bratislava Airport Would Like to Offer Flights to Adriatic Sea

Bratislava, August 16 (TASR) - M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava would like to offer flights from the Slovak capital to the Adriatic Sea, but it hasn't managed to come to an agreement with any airline yet, airport CEO Jozef Pojedinec has told TASR, adding that the airport is still working on it. There were, for example, flights from Bratislava to Zadar in Croatia in the past. "We'd like to resume this destination," stated Pojedinec, adding that many Slovak tourists head to the Adriatic Sea during the summer, using either their own cars or buses to get there. The airport has registered a huge amount of activity among bus transport operators in this regard. In addition, some Slovaks own apartments or apartment blocks in Croatia, which increases demand for this destination. "Based on this we've decided to try to talk airlines into this destination. Unfortunately, we failed to do so this year due to a lack of time and due to our traditional airline partners having their planes busy on other routes," said Pojedinec. However, he believes that they might succeed with this effort next year. The airport also strove to resume flights from Bratislava to the north of Europe, for example to Norway, but it hasn't succeeded yet. According to Pojedinec, airlines use to map out the market and a route's potential in advance very sensitively. Destinations by the sea are mainly popular among people from Scandinavian countries and, we, "unfortunately, aren't the kind of destination that would be interesting for them," he said. Pojedinec said that Bratislava airport is holding negotiations with various airlines on other destinations to be served from Bratislava as well. Negotiations are under way, and Pojedinec didn't want to be more specific before particular contracts are signed. Bratislava airport has announced two new routes as of this autumn. The first one is Lvov, Ukraine, which will be served by Wizz Air as of October 30, which the second one is Marrakech, Morocco, to be served by Ryanair as of the same day. ko/df
